Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei' registered in 1992, 'Marion Bachman' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and a central zone of light yellow green streaked with dark green. The leaf blades measure 8 inches (20.3 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with 9 to 10 vein pairs, slightly rippled margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a dull underside with rounded base.
In the Garden
'Marion Bachman' forms a clump 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall, with scapes reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover. Its medium size makes it appropriate for mixed perennial beds, where it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Marion Bachman' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and take protective measures as needed.
