Overview

Registered in 2002, 'Marie Curie' is a large, blue-green hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its heavily textured, very shiny blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins, prominent venation, and substantial substance that supports a large, upright clump.

In the Garden

'Marie Curie' reaches a mature spread of 51 inches (129.5 cm) and a height of 10.5 inches (26.7 cm), making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its bold, corrugated foliage pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its blue-green tones. The upright scapes, reaching 26 to 27 inches (66.0 to 68.6 cm), carry pale lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Plant in moist, well-drained soil and water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf substance. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges; slug and deer resistance is typical for thick-leaved hostas but not guaranteed.
