Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Artist's Palette' registered in 1995, 'Margin of Error' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with narrow, creamy white margins. The leaf surface carries a glaucous bloom on both top and bottom, while the margins are smooth and approximately 0.25 inches (0.6 cm) wide.
In the Garden
'Margin of Error' reaches a mature height of 14 inches (35.6 cm) with a spread of 15 inches (38.1 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom is preserved. Its moderate growth rate and compact habit allow pairing with small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas in shaded settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the tender white margins may be particularly attractive to pests.
