Overview
Registered in 1987 by D. Stone and P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Margaret' is a miniature cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its narrow, lance-shaped leaves with medium green margins and an unstated center color, borne on a compact plant reaching only 5 inches in height and 7 inches in diameter.
In the Garden
'Hosta' is best suited to partial to full shade, where its small stature—5 inches tall and 7 inches wide—makes it an ideal specimen for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Its diminutive size also lends itself well to container cultivation. Companion plants might include other miniature hostas or small shade-tolerant perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, though the small leaves may be less appealing than larger cultivars.
