Overview
Registered in 2007, *Hosta* 'Margaret Eyre' is a large hybrid from the cross of *H. 'Fascination'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Sagae'* (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its nearly round, dark green leaves with broad, creamy yellow margins that are slightly rippled, creating a strong bicolor contrast.
In the Garden
'Margaret Eyre' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, where the yellow margins remain bright without scorching. The substantial leaf size and bold variegation make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders alongside ferns, astilbes, or other large-leaved perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed preventatively.
