Overview
Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Mango Salsa' is a small-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between a *H. clausa normalis* F2 seedling (pod parent) and *H.* 'Strawberry Banana Smoothie' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with gold margins, yellow slightly rippled leaf edges, and reddish purple flowers borne on red scapes.
In the Garden
'Mango Salsa' forms a mound-like clump reaching approximately 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to dappled shade, typical of most hostas, and its small size makes it appropriate for container cultivation or placement in the front of borders. Companion plants might include small ferns or shade-tolerant perennials of similar scale.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
