Overview

Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Ginsu Knife', 'Machete' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its fountain-shaped clump of coarse, heavily textured foliage. The leaves are ovate with tapered bases, medium green with serrated margins, and exhibit moderate waviness, light twisting, and light folding, with a slightly shiny surface on both sides.

In the Garden

'Machete' forms an upright, fountain-shaped clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its coarse, serrate-edged leaves provide strong textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The plant's upright habit and moderate spread allow it to function well as a specimen or in small groupings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer exposures. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Typical hosta-growing zones apply; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through standard cultural practices.
