Overview

Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'M. Owen Papuga' is a large, upright cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' (pod parent) with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinguished by its very dark green, ovate leaves with slightly rippled margins and a moderately wavy texture, forming an open, upright clump.

In the Garden

'M. Owen Papuga' is suited to partial to full shade, typical of most hostas. At maturity, it forms a substantial clump approximately 45 inches (114 cm) in diameter and 22 inches (56 cm) tall, with flower scapes reaching up to 47 inches (119 cm). Its upright habit and dark green foliage pair well with lighter-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*, and it can serve as a bold accent in shaded borders or woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitoring and protective measures are advisable in typical hosta-growing zones.
