Overview
Registered in 1994 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Lunar Orbit', 'Lunar Magic' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its broad, medium green leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins. The leaf blade is cordate at the base, measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) in both length and width, with ten pairs of veins; the upper surface is slightly shiny, while the underside is dull.
In the Garden
'Lunar Magic' reaches a mature spread of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 16 inches (40.6 cm), forming a dense, rounded clump. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and is well-suited to woodland borders, shade gardens, or as a specimen beneath deciduous trees. Its substantial size makes it effective as a ground cover or in combination with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; it is not recommended for container cultivation due to its large dimensions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Lunar Magic' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and employ control measures as needed.
