Overview
Registered in 2004 by an unknown originator, *Hosta* 'Lullabye' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from an open pollination of *H. 'Spritzer'*. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaf centers bordered by bright yellow, heavily rippled margins, combined with a white-backed underside and a glaucous bloom beneath the leaf.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching approximately 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height. Its lance-shaped leaves, measuring 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, feature 9 to 10 vein pairs, a slightly shiny upper surface, and moderately wavy edges. 'Lullabye' performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its cascading yellow margins make it suitable for foreground placement in shaded borders or as a specimen in woodland gardens. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Lullabye' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate control measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
