Year registered2000
Section classII-5b

Overview

Registered in 2000, this large hosta cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' and a seedling of the same parent. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with wide, greenish-yellow margins that are slightly rippled, creating a bold variegated effect.

In the Garden

Mature plants reach 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height, with an upright growth habit. The leaves are 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide, with 13 vein pairs, a cordate base, and a slightly shiny upper surface. The 1-inch (2.5 cm) wide margins are greenish yellow and slightly rippled. The scape rises 22 to 28 inches (55.9 to 71.1 cm) and is tinted red. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas with blue-green foliage. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials. Its large size makes it suitable for mid-border or as a specimen in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate management may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
