Overview
Registered in 1992, this medium-sized hosta cultivar results from a cross between *Hosta* 'Flamboyant' and *Hosta* 'Banana Sundae'. 'Lovelight' is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, light yellow gold margins that are streaked and slightly rippled, creating a tricolor effect when combined with the glaucous bloom on the leaf surface.
In the Garden
'Lovelight' reaches a mature height of 14 inches (35.6 cm) with a spread of 27 inches (68.6 cm), making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its 9-inch (22.9 cm) long, cordate-based leaves with 11 vein pairs provide substantial textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*. The 36-inch (91.4 cm) scapes bear light green flowers that rise well above the foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates within typical hosta-growing zones. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges; standard slug and deer precautions are advisable given the tender leaf margins.
