Overview

Registered in 2013 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Hanky Panky', 'Lottie' is a small-sized hosta distinguished by its dark green leaves with wide, yellow, flat margins. The center of each leaf retains a gray-green tone throughout the growing season, providing a subtle color contrast that persists from spring into autumn.

In the Garden

This compact, mound-forming cultivar reaches a mature height of 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25 cm) with a spread of 14 to 18 inches (36 to 46 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, where the yellow margins hold their color without scorching. 'Lottie' is well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant, and its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small-leaved impatiens complement its tidy habit.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry spells, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Lottie' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers are recommended.
