Overview
Registered in 1983 by R. Benedict, this miniature hybrid combines *Hosta nakaiana* and *Hosta venusta* as parentage. 'Lorna' is distinguished by its diminutive size and variegated foliage, featuring dark matte green margins with a lighter center, and glossy undersides.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) and height of 2 inches (5.1 cm), 'Lorna' is suited to shaded rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a border. Its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where its compact form and variegated leaves provide textural contrast. Companion plants should be similarly scaled, such as miniature ferns or small sedges, to avoid overwhelming the hosta.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and take protective measures if necessary.
