Overview
Registered in 2003, this miniature cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'Subcrocea' and *Hosta* 'PeeDee Gold Flash'. 'Longboard Stringer' forms a compact mound of narrow, lance-shaped leaves with green centers and flat yellow margins; older leaves undergo a notable color change, adding seasonal interest. The plant is further distinguished by its red-and-yellow flower scapes and red seed pods.
In the Garden
Reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, this fast-growing miniature is well suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or troughs. Its small stature and mound-like habit make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. It performs best in partial to dappled shade and pairs well with other small perennials such as heucheras or miniature ferns.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
