Overview
Registered in 1995 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Lonesome Pine' is a large cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, creamy white margins. The leaf blades measure 11 inches (27.9 cm) long by 8.25 inches (21.0 cm) wide, with slightly rippled margins and a cordate base; the upper surface is slightly shiny, while the underside bears a glaucous bloom.
In the Garden
This hosta forms a substantial clump 26 inches (66.0 cm) tall and 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter, with a semi-upright habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers contrast well with the white margins. The large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border, paired with ferns, astilbes, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
