Overview
Registered in 2016, 'Lois Jane' is a small hosta cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Sea Lightning' as the pod parent. Its most distinctive feature is the heavy, continuous streaking of medium green and creamy white that extends from the leaf blade down the petiole, combined with slightly rippled margins and a lance-shaped leaf form.
In the Garden
With a mature spread of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), 'Lois Jane' forms a compact, upright clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or troughs. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small woodland perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may require protection from slugs and deer in garden settings.
