Overview
Registered in 2006, this miniature hosta originated from a cross using *Hosta* 'Little Wonder Supreme' as the pod parent with an unknown pollen parent. 'Little Maddie' is visually distinctive for its lime green leaves with green misting along flat to slightly rippled margins, combined with red speckling on the reverse of the petioles.
In the Garden
'Little Maddie' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in height and 7 inches (17.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Its miniature size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where its variegated foliage and red petiole speckling can be appreciated at close range.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur, though the small leaf size of this miniature may reduce its attractiveness to these pests.
