Overview
Registered in 2001 from unknown parentage, 'Little Hobber' is a small, fast-growing hosta cultivar distinguished by its nearly round, deeply corrugated, dark green leaves with flat margins and a long petiole. The leaf surface is dull on both top and underside, with six pairs of veins, and the leaf blade is moderately cupped, measuring 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in both length and width.
In the Garden
This mound-forming hosta reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with green scapes rising 16 to 20 inches (40.6 to 50.8 cm) above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its compact size makes it well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Companion plants include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas that share similar light and moisture requirements.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Little Hobber' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
