Overview
Registered in 1990 by C. Owens, this miniature hosta was selfed from *Hosta venusta*, producing a compact mound of green leaves with medium yellow-green margins. The cultivar reaches only 1 inch (2.5 cm) in height and 2.75 inches (7.0 cm) in diameter, with leaves measuring 1.25 inches (3.2 cm) long and 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) wide, each bearing three vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Little Fellow' is suited to the front of a shade border, rock garden, or trough garden, where its diminutive size can be appreciated without being overshadowed. It forms a dense, low clump and flowers on scapes 5 to 5.5 inches (12.7 to 14.0 cm) tall. As a miniature, it is an excellent candidate for container cultivation, paired with other small perennials such as miniature ferns or *Sedum* species.
Care Notes
Grow in moist, well-drained soil in partial to full shade, typical for hosta-growing zones. Water regularly during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may feed on the foliage, so monitor and manage as needed.
