Overview

Registered in 1999 as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Masquerade', 'Little Dragon' is a miniature hosta distinguished by its small, dark green leaves with narrow, pure white margins. The leaf margins measure approximately 0.13 inches (0.3 cm) wide and are slightly rippled, while the leaf surface is dull above and slightly shiny beneath. The plant forms a compact, mound-like habit with three pairs of leaf veins.

In the Garden

'Little Dragon' reaches a mature diameter of 10 inches (25.4 cm) and a height of 4 inches (10.2 cm), with scapes rising 15 to 17 inches (38.1 to 43.2 cm) above the foliage. Its miniature size makes it well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs effectively with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. The compact dimensions also make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, avoiding waterlogged soil. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Little Dragon' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent. Its slow growth rate means it will remain small for several years before reaching full size.
