Overview

Registered in 1995 by E. Fisher and P. Ruh, this small sport of *Hosta* 'Lancifolia' forms a compact, spreading clump 8 inches (20.3 cm) tall and 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) in diameter. Its narrow, lance-shaped leaves are dark green with smooth margins, measuring 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) long and 1.63 inches (4.1 cm) wide, with four vein pairs, a dull upper surface, and a slightly shiny underside.

In the Garden

'Little Dart' is suited to partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and reaches a mature spread of approximately 14 inches (36 cm). Its small size and narrow leaves make it appropriate for edging, rock gardens, or the front of a shaded border, where it pairs well with small ferns or woodland groundcovers. The plant’s compact habit also suits container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slug and deer resistance is not absolute, the narrow, smooth leaves may be less appealing to slugs than broader-leaved cultivars.
