Overview
Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Flashdance', 'Little Boy Blue' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with creamy white margins. The broadly ovate, flat leaves measure 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in both length and width, with 9 to 10 pairs of veins and a dull surface on both sides. The white margins are approximately 0.25 inches (0.6 cm) wide and slightly rippled.
In the Garden
'Little Boy Blue' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in height and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the blue coloration is most pronounced. Its small size makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, and it pairs effectively with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar may be damaged by slugs and deer in shaded garden settings.
