Overview
Registered in 1990 by W. & E. Lachman, 'Lime Piecrust' is a large hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its green leaves with gold margins and lightly undulated leaf edges. The leaf blades reach 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) in length and 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) in width, with 11 to 13 vein pairs, and the plant forms a clump 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter and 17 inches (43.2 cm) tall.
In the Garden
This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border. The gold-margined leaves provide contrast when paired with dark-leaved perennials such as *Heuchera* or ferns. Its substantial dimensions preclude use in small containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Lime Piecrust' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and benefits from protective measures where these pests are prevalent.
