Overview

Registered in 2013 by an unknown hybridizer, 'Lime Leader' is a large, fast-growing hosta distinguished by its variegated foliage: light green, slightly rippled leaf margins surround a darker center, with a broadly ovate, cordate base. The leaves measure 11 inches (27.9 cm) long by 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide, with 15 to 16 vein pairs, and are dull on both surfaces.

In the Garden

'Lime Leader' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or as a specimen in partial to full shade. Its fast growth rate allows it to fill space quickly, and it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. The light green scapes, 24 to 30 inches (61.0 to 76.2 cm) tall, bear typical hosta flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Lime Leader' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitor and manage accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
