Overview

Registered in 2009, 'Lime Custard' is a large hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Lemon Meringue' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Riptide' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive visual feature is the combination of blue-green leaf centers with light green, slightly rippled margins, a color contrast that is unusual among large hostas.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature size of 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter and 19 inches (48.3 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and its broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and light waviness provide textural interest. 'Lime Custard' works well as a specimen plant in shaded borders or as a groundcover in woodland gardens, and pairs effectively with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Lime Custard' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
