Overview
Registered in 2016, *Hosta* 'Light of Day' is a small, mound-forming sport of a seedling derived from *H.* 'Little Wonder' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Whimsey' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its tricolor leaf pattern: a yellow center, a narrow medium-green intermediate zone, and slightly blue-green margins that feather into the center.
In the Garden
Mature plants reach approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 27 inches (68.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. This small hosta is suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture in partial to full shade, as typical for the genus. Its compact size and tricolor foliage pair well with ferns, heucheras, or other small shade perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and deer browsing, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
