Overview

Registered in 1995 by L. Simpers, *Hosta* 'Leon' is a small, mound-forming cultivar of unknown parentage. Its variegated leaves are distinguished by medium green margins and a slightly shiny upper surface, with a very shiny underside and rounded leaf bases.

In the Garden

'Leon' reaches a mature diameter of 18 inches (45.7 cm) and a height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It thrives in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small shade perennials. Its compact size and mound habit allow it to fit into tight spaces or small garden beds.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Leon' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
