Overview
Registered in 2002 by M. Zilis and introduced by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Lemon Crust' is a sport of *H. 'Fortunei Gigantea'* distinguished by its medium-green leaves with irregular light to gray-green streaking that arises from creamy yellow, slightly rippled margins. The lance-shaped leaves are lightly cupped and folded with moderate waviness, and the plant produces green scapes 34 to 38 inches (86.4–96.5 cm) tall.
In the Garden
This medium-sized hosta reaches a mature diameter of 39 inches (99.1 cm) and a height of 18.5 inches (47.0 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and its long, semi-narrow leaves provide textural contrast when paired with ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials. The creamy yellow margins brighten darker corners of the garden.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Lemon Crust' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly.
