Overview
Registered in 1988 by P. Banyai, *Hosta* 'Lemon Chiffon' is a large-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with creamy yellow, undulating margins that contrast sharply against the darker center, a pattern that holds well into the season.
In the Garden
'Lemon Chiffon' forms a substantial clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 39 inches (99.1 cm) in height. Its leaves measure 12 inches (30.5 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, with 12 vein pairs. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, where the variegation remains most pronounced. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Due to its large size, it is not well suited for container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
