Overview

Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Lela's Quilt' is a large, slow-growing cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Rosedale Black Hole' as its pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, heavily corrugated leaves that are broadly ovate with cordate bases, moderately cupped, and edged with slightly rippled margins.

In the Garden

'Lela's Quilt' forms an upright mound reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 35 inches (88.9 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its substantial, puckered blue foliage pairs well with fine-textured companions such as ferns or *Heuchera* in contrasting chartreuse or purple tones. The plant's slow growth rate and large size make it inappropriate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the thick, corrugated leaves may still be palatable to these pests.
