Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek (AHS), this miniature hosta forms a compact, mound-like clump 19 inches (48.3 cm) in diameter and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) tall. Its variegated leaves are elliptic to lanceolate with tapered bases, dark green margins that are slightly rippled, and a dull upper surface contrasting with a very shiny underside; the leaf blade measures 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) long by 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide and bears four vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Lavender Lace' is suited to partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and reaches a mature spread of roughly 19 inches (48 cm) with a height of 6.5 inches (16.5 cm). Its miniature size makes it appropriate for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, where it can be paired with small ferns, heucheras, or other compact perennials. It is also well suited to container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and manage as needed.
