Overview

Registered in 2002 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Sea Yellow Sunrise', 'Laura Lanier' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with gold margins. The foliage emerges with a glaucous bloom that burns off the upper surface, leaving the leaf top glossy while the underside retains its bloom.

In the Garden

Reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, 'Laura Lanier' is suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or fine-textured groundcovers. Its compact size and fast growth rate make it an effective edging plant.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in damp conditions; deer browsing is also a potential concern in typical hosta-growing zones.
