Overview

Registered in 2002, 'LaPaloma' is a small hosta cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Maraschino Cherry' (pollen parent unknown). It is distinguished by its compact, cascading mound of lance-shaped, variegated leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a slight twist, complemented by a late-season display of flowers on scapes that are green dappled with maroon.

In the Garden

'LaPaloma' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 25 inches (63.5 cm) and a height of 12.5 inches (31.8 cm), forming a dense, mound-like habit with a moderate growth rate. Its small size and cascading form make it well suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as a container specimen. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs effectively with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'LaPaloma' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed.
