Overview
Registered in 2005 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Lakeside Zinger', 'Lakeside Whizzit' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with white margins and a fast growth rate. The lance-shaped leaves, measuring 3.25 inches (8.3 cm) long and 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide, feature white centers dotted with green, bordered by a flat, green margin 0.5 inches (1.3 cm) wide.
In the Garden
This compact hosta reaches a mature diameter of 9 inches (22.9 cm) and a height of 3.25 inches (8.3 cm), forming a tidy mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or woodland edges. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for the genus, and pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or miniature sedges. Its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
