Overview
Registered in 1998 by an unknown hybridizer, 'Lakeside Waterfall' is a small hosta distinguished by its green leaves with golden yellow flat margins and slightly shiny surfaces on both sides. The cultivar forms a compact, fast-growing mound reaching 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, with scapes rising 16 to 21 inches (40.6 to 53.3 cm) above the foliage.
In the Garden
This small hosta is suitable for partial to full shade, typical of the genus, and its moderate size makes it appropriate for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. The green-and-gold variegation pairs well with darker-leaved perennials such as ferns or heucheras, and the mound-like habit provides a tidy groundcover effect. With a fast growth rate, it fills in quickly in suitable conditions.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
