Overview
Registered in 2004 by an unknown breeder, 'Lakeside Un Huh' is a giant blue-green hosta distinguished by its exceptionally large, nearly round leaves with cordate bases and moderate corrugation. The foliage displays a glaucous bloom on the upper surface and a slight sheen beneath, with flat margins and 17 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches a mature spread of 72 inches (182.9 cm) and a height of 28 inches (71.1 cm), with upright scapes rising 34 to 36 inches (86.4 to 91.4 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen plant or background element in large borders. Given its rapid growth rate—achieving full spread in four years—it requires ample space and is not appropriate for containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout the growing season, as giant hostas are prone to wilting in dry conditions. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formula; monitor for slug damage on the broad leaves, particularly in damp weather. Deer may browse the foliage, so protective measures are advisable in areas with high deer pressure.
