Overview

Registered in 2002 by an unknown breeder, 'Lakeside Prophecy' is a large, fast-growing hosta distinguished by its dark green leaves with slightly to moderately rippled margins and deeply corrugated, broadly ovate blades with cordate bases. The variegated foliage, measuring 10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide, exhibits a slightly shiny upper surface and a slightly shiny underside, with 12 to 13 vein pairs per leaf.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter and 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height, with scapes rising 17 to 25 inches (43.2 to 63.5 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders alongside ferns, astilbes, and heucheras. The fast growth rate allows it to fill space quickly in woodland gardens or shaded foundation plantings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slug and deer resistance is not documented for this cultivar, standard protective measures are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
