Overview
Registered in 1993 by Mary Chastain, this small hosta cultivar forms a compact mound of light green leaves with creamy white margins. The leaf blades measure 3 inches (7.6 cm) long by 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide, bearing seven pairs of veins and a slightly rippled, 0.5-inch (1.3 cm) wide white margin; the upper surface is slightly shiny while the underside is dull, and the leaf base is flat.
In the Garden
Reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, 'Lakeside Ninita' is suited to the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings where its small scale can be appreciated. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and combines well with other small perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or miniature sedges. The light green scape rises 15 inches (38.1 cm) above the foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
