Overview
Registered in 1998, 'Lakeside Lagoon' is a giant hosta cultivar derived from a cross between *Hosta hypoleuca* and a blue seedling. It is visually distinctive for its large, medium blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a glaucous bloom on the undersides, and a slight sheen on the upper surfaces.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial mound, reaching approximately 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 49 inches (124.5 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It is best suited to partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage maintains its color. The large leaves and substantial size make it an effective specimen or background plant in woodland gardens or mixed shade borders; it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its size precludes use in most containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
