Overview

Registered in 1994 by an unknown breeder, 'Lakeside Knickknack' is a small, mound-forming hosta derived from a seedling pod parent pollinated by *Hosta* 'Hydon Sunset'. Its primary visual distinction lies in the streaked variegation of its leaves, which also extends into the scape, creating a cohesive pattern of light and dark markings across the plant.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches a mature diameter of 15 inches (38.1 cm) and a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other small perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. Its compact size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges; minimal additional feeding is required. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
