Year registered1994
Section classIV-7

Overview

Registered in 1994, this small hosta cultivar of unknown parentage is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with creamy white margins and subtle streaking. The leaves measure 6 inches (15.2 cm) long by 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, with seven pairs of veins and a smooth, slightly shiny surface on both sides.

In the Garden

Hosta 'Lakeside Kaleidoscope' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green and white variegation remains most stable. Its small size makes it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other small hostas. The scapes rise 22 to 27 inches (55.9 to 68.6 cm) above the foliage, bearing flowers that are streaked blue-green and cream.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
