Overview
Registered in 2002 by Mary Chastain of Lakeside Acres, this large hosta cultivar is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with wide, flat gold margins and a heavy glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The foliage is ovate with cordate bases, lightly folded and moderately corrugated, bearing 13 to 15 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
Reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and spreading to 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter, this mound-forming hosta exhibits a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, where the gold margins contrast well with darker companions such as ferns or heucheras. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or for mid-border placement in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slug and deer damage, the thick, corrugated leaves of this cultivar offer moderate resistance.
