Overview
Registered in 1984 by C. Tompkins, this giant hosta was selected from a pod parent of unspecified identity. It is distinguished by its large, heavily puckered blue-green leaves that retain a heavy blue bloom on the margins, forming a substantial mound up to 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in height.
In the Garden
'Lakeport Blue' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue coloration is most pronounced. At maturity, it forms a specimen-sized clump suitable for use as a focal point in shaded borders or woodland gardens. Its substantial leaf mass pairs well with finer-textured ferns, astilbes, or groundcovers such as *Lamium* or *Pulmonaria*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage, particularly in damp conditions, and deer will browse the leaves where present.
