Overview
Registered in 2005 by P. & J. Ruh, 'Lahn' is a selfed seedling of the *Hosta* 'Tardiana' lineage. This miniature cultivar is distinguished by its narrow, lance-shaped blue-green leaves with dark green flat margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath. The leaves are lightly cupped, moderately twisted, and flat, with four vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Lahn' forms a compact mound 9.75 inches (24.8 cm) in diameter and 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. As a miniature hosta, it is well suited for rock gardens, troughs, container culture, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs effectively with small ferns, heucheras, or other diminutive woodland perennials. Its small size and flower-in-foliage habit make it a subtle textural accent.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly on new foliage.
