Overview
Registered in 2005 by P. & J. Ruh, 'Konkubine' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinguished by its ovate, light to medium green leaves with flat margins, a dull surface on both sides, and a lightly cupped, lightly folded, flat blade.
In the Garden
'Konkubine' forms an upright clump reaching 21.5 inches (54.6 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for typical hosta-growing zones and performs best in partial to full shade. Its medium size and upright habit make it appropriate for mid-border positions or as a specimen among ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Konkubine' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate controls may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
