Overview

Registered in 1999 by B. Sligh, this small hosta cultivar is a selfed seedling of *Hosta* 'Halcyon'. It forms a compact, slow-growing mound and is visually distinguished by its very shiny, cordate leaves with dark green margins and a lighter center, creating a variegated effect.

In the Garden

'Kiwi Emerald' is suitable for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas. At maturity, it reaches approximately 6 inches (15 cm) in height and spreads to about 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter, making it appropriate for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. Its small size and shiny foliage pair well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or small woodland plants.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While generally low-maintenance, this cultivar may require protection from slugs and deer in garden settings typical of hosta-growing zones.
