Overview

Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Kiwi Blue Sky' is a small-sized cultivar derived from self-pollination of *H.* 'Blue Skies'. Its most distinctive visual feature is the medium blue-green leaf with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and slightly rippled margins, borne on a compact mound.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a dense, fast-growing mound 9.8 inches (24.9 cm) tall and 23.6 inches (59.9 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of a shaded border or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green foliage retains its glaucous cast, and pairs well with other small hostas or fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its small stature also makes it a candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
