Overview
Registered in 1999 by B. Sligh, 'Kiwi Blue Baby' is a small, mound-forming hosta resulting from a self-cross of *Hosta* 'Halcyon'. It is distinguished by its intensely blue-green, cordate leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and slightly rippled margins.
In the Garden
This cultivar reaches approximately 20 inches (50 cm) in diameter and 8 inches (20 cm) in height, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of blue-leaved hostas, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders due to its compact size. Its small stature also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many blue-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage; standard slug control measures are recommended in damp conditions.
