Overview

Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Kira' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinguished by its blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a glossy upper surface, and a very shiny underside, forming an upright, moderately growing mound.

In the Garden

'Kira' is suitable for partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas. At maturity, it reaches approximately 25 inches (63.5 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, making it appropriate for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. Its moderate growth rate and upright habit allow pairing with ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials that contrast in leaf shape or color.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Kira' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
